Wellington St Sewerage Pumps Station safety upgrade

The original Wellington St Sewerage Pump Station (SPS) consists of a brick building with a concrete roof over a combination wet well / dry well pump station with two pumps installed. The original pumps were archaic shaft driven pumps. The pump station was configured to transfer sewerage from South George Town and the surrounding area to the North George Town Sewerage Treatment Plant (STP).

In the early 90’s, George Town Council undertook to relocated the STP from North George Town to a new location close to the industrial area south of George Town. The flow from the Wellington St SPS was redirected to the new George Town STP and the flow from the North George Town STP redirected to the Wellington St SPS.

Work is needed to:

  • Replace internal valves with externally mounted valves
  • Refurbish the original station to working order
  • Convert the existing station to an inlet well

Tenders have currently been called for this project.
