Ridgeway Dam Upgrade Project

Ridgeway Dam is the major storage for supplying drinking water to the municipality of Kingborough. This $15 million Ridgeway Dam Upgrade Project will improve dam safety and security of supply. It is part of TasWater’s commitment to investing in new and improved water infrastructure projects across Tasmania. These projects provide improved public health and environmental compliance, and ensure our assets deliver reliable service for future generations.

The Ridgeway Dam Upgrade Project will be completed in three stages:

Stage 1 - A detailed investigation and design for strengthening the dam wall (2015)
Stage 2 - Dam wall strengthening work (2016/17)
Stage 3 - Potentially attaching an impermeable membrane to the upstream face of the dam wall to prevent deterioration of concrete wall.(timing and cost implications currently under consideration)

The first stage (design and investigation) involves drilling a number of small diameter holes (approximately 75mm diameter) into the dam wall and its foundation and then analysing drill samples.

Once this has been completed, a project plan will be developed for Stages 2 and 3.

In early 2015, TasWater commenced design and investigation work (Stage 1). The project is due for completion in 2017.
