Longvista Sewage Pump Station upgrade

Work has commenced on a major upgrade of the Longvista Sewage Pump Station (SPS) in Blackstone Heights, Launceston.

The existing SPS - located within the Blackstone Park access road reserve near Lake Trevallyn - will be replaced with a new SPS.

The work is being undertaken by Paul Zanetto Pty Ltd and is scheduled for completion towards the end of October 2015, weather permitting.

The upgrade of the Longvista SPS is part of a larger program of works designed to address problems in the Blackstone Heights area as part of the Blackstone Heights Sewage Reticulation Strategy.

The strategy will improve the capacity of the entire reticulation strategy to protect the environment and allow for future growth. It will also include an upgrade of the Bayview SPS - however the Longvista SPS upgrade needs to be completed before the Bayview SPS upgrade can go ahead. Issues with overflow will only be fully addressed once the strategy has been completed in its entirety.

TasWater is also taking steps to minimise stormwater inflow and infiltration in the Blackstone Heights area. Given the extent of the problem, this could take a number of years.

Every effort will be made to minimise the impact of the Longvista SPS upgrade on nearby residents. Users of Blackstone Park are urged to drive slowly past the work site and advised that there might be some restrictions on vehicular access until the project has been completed.
